St. James A.M.E. Church

(Portion built in 1937 of local Oklahoma rock)
6th & Main Street

Visit the St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church at 700 N. Main Street in Arcadia. As the Church grew and it was time to expand the facility in 1994, the congregation chose to preserve the original building that was built in 1937. They wanted to preserve this rich part of the history, a building constructed by local artisans from local Oklahoma sand rock that was transported to the current site by horse and wagon. The old was incorporated into the new facility in order to preserve its history. The cornerstone shows the names of the Pastor and Trustee Board of St. James A.M.E. church 1937.
